There is a wide choice of books that aim to help you learn how to use AutoCAD. Each of them is different and takes a different approach. If possible, have a look at a book before ordering it to make sure it is suitable for your level and matches your approach to learning. Be sure to use one that matches the version of AutoCAD you are currently using. Most books are republished each year when new versions of AutoCAD are released.

The AutoCAD Bible by Ellen Finklestein

There are any number of books available that claim to teach you how to work with AutoCAD. Ellen Finklestein's book is a relative newcommer, first appearing for Release 14. However, this is an excellent general purpose book. There is lots of help for beginners. The book contains lots of easily paced examples and is clearly written. However, the scope of the book is extensive, and it will provided a good reference long after you have learned the basics. If you can only afford one AutoCAD book, this should be the one.

A lot of the books are more reference books than they are how to learn to use AutoCAD. I would recommend Applying AutoCAD by Terry T. Wohlers. This is a self guided text that will help you learn to use the program at a pace you choose. (Under consideration for inclusion - Tiger 28 August 2008)

I have used the Autocad for Dummies, and it is a good place for a start (I have no experience with drafting or CAD.) Also just bought "AutoCAD 2009 No Experieince Required" by Jon McFarland. It goes into 3D. (Thanks - Tiger 080908)
