Hi just wondering what is the difference between 3ds max and autocad 2006 both are made by the same company. I'm working on a project where I have a model of a school campus. Eventually I need to render this model using a 3d api such as java3d or open gl through a loader. Before I can do that though I need to edit the 3d model which is currently in dxf format. The operations I need to perform include some simple reshaping, deleting of some layers, adding textures. So I was wondering which program will suit me better (easier to work with) given eventually I need to parse the saved model file for the loader.

Huge difference between autocad and 3dmax, keeping it simple , autocad is great for making 2d plans, building/electric/plumbing list is endless, in 2006 has a decent 3d but not as good as 2007, 3dmax
is fully 3d, has many uses from pictures you see in magazine's to xbox game's to movie special effects.
