I am trying to give a line a width...which I can do with polyline-widths etc, but I want to thicken the line to one side only. I'm sure I have done this a few years ago...but have forgotten now! Any clues...?

Type: PL (polyline) hit enter
Pick a start point,
AutoCAD will respond with:
Current line-width is 0'-0"
Specify next point or [Arc/Halfwidth/Length/Undo/Width]:
Press "W" for width, hit enter.
AutoCAD will say:
Specify starting width <0'-0">:
hit enter for 0
Specify ending width <0'-0">: 3
I gave mine 3
it then acts like normal..
Specify next point or [Arc/Halfwidth/Length/Undo/Width]: then you pick the end point.

no, that didn't work. It draws an extendable triangle, then the width is split either side of the line. I need the thickening to occur on one side OR the other.

Exactly what thickness for the start and what for the end?
I only used 0 as an example, you can make the beginning 3 and the end 100 if you want to. Perhaps an explaination of what you are doing might help.

I think the "halfwidth" option is what you're looking for.
Halfwidth
Specifies the width from the center of a wide polyline line segment to one of its edges.

Width and halfwidth will not work because the line is "thickened" EVENLY on BOTH sides of the line. I don't believe the width can be "thickened" on ONE SIDE only (LEFT or RIGHT). If you don't have many lines, you might try drawing a right triangle and using a solid bhatch.

Aww, I thought I had it, too. :-)

hi There cadam
i dont Think that you can Thicken ONLY 1 side of a polyline in autocad
try offseting The Polyline or move it up 1/2 The Thickness or something
similar
This would be a nice function if autocad could do This
but sometimes you have to figure out ways to do Things
That The Software does not do natively
Thanks
