We have two high-end CAD stations each with 4GB memory, fast hard drives and very good graphics cards. Yet, we have trouble working with large Sketchup files. What gives?

Well Mark, I have found that using layers and groups helps speed up SU drawings. Espically groups. This way you can turn off or hide items that are not needed. Switching from textured mode to either shaded or even hidden line can speed up drawings as well. I only shadows when I am either ready to print or export to POVRAY. Leaving these off as well help spped things up. I hope some of these things help.

I also have problems with large sketchup drawings.. found the best way as f700es says not to use textured for moving about etc. I also try not to give toooo much detail to some of the smaller objects as this obviously increases the drawing size. Lots of groups & componants :D

Thank you both for your responses. I'll give your suggestions a try.

yeah, sometim4es my computer locks up and then screams that it can go any further... so i usually try to draw everything and only add texture until the job is complete.
