Multi lines

How do I draw two paralell lines a set distance apart. Have tried with the multiline tool but think I'me going wrong with the commands. Appreciate some advice,thanks.

i guess i'm not the best person to give advice since i'm on here as a beginner for advice myself... but its late on a saturday night and if you are like me then anything is worth a shot!

i use the 'offset' command. if you select the first line and then click on the offset button, you can then specify a distance to offset a second line. you'll end up with two parallel lines a specified distance apart.
