When you open Windows Explorer, you can set the files and folders to display as list, details, thumbnails, preview, etc, and with the options, you can set the display to retain those settings in all folders, so that every time you open Windows Explorer, the files and folders will be as you set them.

Can you do that with AutoCAD, and if so, how? Right now, whenever we want to open a drawing, or pick one to XREF, it comes up in the preview format, when we'd all rather have the list of files and folders lined up vertically as a list, or as details. We can pick the option to list them, or to list them with details, but as soon as we close out of that particular window and go on to another folder or directory, it defaults back to the preview option.

Are you actually opening a drawing or cancelling out of the open?

It doesn't matter if I am opening the directory to open a drawing or to xref a drawing - the files and folders consistently come up in "preview" mode.

I don't quite know what you mean about "cancelling out of the open." If I cancel "open" then there's no directory window in which to view files to pick.

When you say 'preview' do you mean thumbnails? There are 2 ways to try and get rid of this. 1 is in the upper right hand corner of the OPEN window, there is a TOOLS button. If you hit that, at the bottom of the list will appear 'PREVIEW' and it will most likely be checked. Just uncheck that one. If its a thumbnail thing, you will have to go to TOOLS in a WINDOWS folder and there is something in there called "REMEMBER FOLDER'S SETTINGS", try checking that if it does not work. If I have misunderstood, please let me know.
