Hi everyone,
I am brand-spanking new to AutoCad. I have AC2000 at home and AC LT97
at work. Can 2K or 97 LT draw a rectangle by just plugging in a size like
10 x 20? Instead of typing coordinates. I see in CADTutor's 2000i tutorial
you can. I can't imagine that you can't in 2000 so hopefully I'm just missing
it. Again, I'd just like to just click on the rectangle button and type in the
Length x Width or something close to this. Is it possible?
Really appreciate any responses.
Thanks a lot!

You can with relative coordinates -- just use the "@" sign before you type in your length & width.

No matter what method you use you will still have to punch in a start co-ordinate then the size.

Maybe you could use osnap to signify start position relative to another object.

Or draw it where ever you want then use move to relocate it at your leisure. :)

I appreciate your responses!
Its nice to know someone doesn't mind helping even the most "challenged"
among us (namely...Me).
I'll do what you suggest!

USE Point and Shoot method.

No coords reqd. Just click on 'line button' or type l, return.

Then using ORTHO (tab at the status bar should be pressed)

Move the mouse in the general direction, then type a value and return.

So do 50 along 50 down 50 back and 50 up (or type c to close)

OK ?

I NEVER use coords in 2D. leave that for 3D.

I use a combination of point and shoot and have ALL object snaps on. I can then draw anything. And using OTRACKING helps even further. I teach about hundred kids a yr from 12-18 yrs and we can draw anything by 18yrs in 3D. Starting from nothing.
