Available from Solidworks, DWGgateway is a data translation plug-in for AutoCAD users who need to open and edit any DWG file using any version of AutoCAD. For more information, and to get your free download, just visit:

Excellent. Now I wonder why Autodesk didn't come up with one of those - would have saved a lot of people a lot of hassle.

I've been using DWG Gateway for about 2 years. It does exactly what it says. We get newer versions of CAD files from the Corps all the time. I use DWGgateway to open them and "save as" to our version (Map 5). I have not seen any instances where something was "forgotten" or "wrong" with the converted dwg file.

An awesome program, and a must-have for any AutoCAD user who deals with "outside" files.

This site also has a good viewer/plotter for those non-AutoCAD users (engineers) in our office.

No, I don't think DWGGateway will work with LT. You probably should just download the free DWG viewer from AutoDesk that can also re-save to other versions. It works great but it is another program to load. :(
