Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and would like to know what you think of the new Autocad LT 2007. I'm currently using LT 2002 at work, I work for an Architect in Devon, U.K. and would stay within the construction industry.

I work on my own with my boss, and feel that I'm a bit behind with whats currently available, one of the reasons why I joined this forum was to keep myself up to-date.

I'm sorting some additional training to top up my C&G courses, but I'm looking into buying LT for my own use at home, so what do you think of it?

Have read through some threads about Revit, so what do you think, any good for my discipline? Also how much are we looking at?

Would welcome any advise, help, info....

LT is a 2D, "lite" version of full blown AutoCAD.
Very little customization ability. No lisp, VBA, etc.

Take a look at http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=5130011 for more info.

I run my own Architectural Practice in Leamington Spa my projects range from 200,000 to 3.5 mill I have been using AutoCAD LT since 1996. I do not need the facility of 3d work I pay for it if I need it I have found ACAD Lt meets all my 2d drawing requirements. Feel free to spend £3k+ for the full version or £700 for the LT. If someone or the practice you work for is buying fair enuf LOL.

autocad lt 2007 has lots of features that make it worth upgrading from 2002. if you can get your boss to spring for it, you can also install it at home and not have to buy it. it's in the fine print. you are allowed to install it on a second computer if only one of the computers will be running autocad lt at any time, for example if you take your work home as i sometimes do.

i think instead of autocad LT progecad Lite can meet your need but for free

LT/lite stuff is just crippled but if you only need to do 2d it would be ok?

I have just purchased ACAD Lt after hand drawing for some 6 years (I am a Surveyor in Hampshire Uk designing Architectural projects up to £150,000), I think ACAD Lt should meet my needs other than I am having problems importing a raster image into my A1 template (my company logo) I'm not sure if this will be a problem for you but I have been reliably informed that the ACAD Lt does not support this function?

The only solution I have to date is to draw my company logo (complex shapes) seams a bit of a waste of time though.

stevenorton, yes it's true that LT doesn't support raster images directly...it will display them if they were created by a full blown version but you wont be able to manipulate them...

there are several "extenders" out there that you can purchase that will add a lot more functionality to the LT version...and in some cases you can download a trial and even after the expiry the raster image function will continue on as a "free-be"...

hazardman, thanks for the suggestion. I have worked out that if you have an image in a word document or similar you can import into ACAD Lt file.

This company says it can add LISP and 3D capability to LT products from 2000 to 2007. I don't have first-hand knowledge of whether it actually works though. Caveat emptor.
