View Full Version : Changing an objects layer?

I am using AutoCAD 2004 and have come across some serious quirks. It started yesterday when my AC wouldn't open up the text format box when I double clicked on the text. The only way to open the format box is topen it from the text context box in the properties area or modify>object>text>edit. Regardless, either way is much more time consuming than double clicking the text. Now today when I opened AC, I tried to change an object's layer and it doesn't work. Everything I try, it will NOT change the layer that the object is in. It also won't bring up the properties box when I double click on an object. Does anyone have any ideas on what is happening. Is it my computer or is it my software? Someone, please help! Thanks in advance.

Double-clicking is working fine for me. Maybe one of the dozens (or hundreds?) of hidden settings got messed up. Until you get it fixed, you can try selecting the object or text, then right click to bring up a dialog box to select Edit Text, Properties, etc.

Check the autodesk website for service patches. I am sure they would have them for acad2004.

I suggest using a profile and re-applying. I can't take any responsibilty
for any mistakes and errors !

1) Type OPTIONS

2) Goto the PROFILES tab.

3) Export the current profile, includes all your settings

4) Now apply the default profile.

5) Check if dbl-clicking etc works

6) Re-apply 'your' profile

Here is my selection settings in 2K, same as 2004

Otherwise search the helpfile, hit F1 in acad, and in there
system variables.

Found this in helpfile
PICKFIRST
Type: Integer
Saved in: Registry
Initial value: 1
Controls whether you select objects before (noun-verb selection) or after you issue a command.

0 Turns off PICKFIRST; you select objects after you issue a command
1 Turns on PICKFIRST; you select objects before you issue a command
