I have a few versions of a file that somehow got corrupted, I may start another thread with the pics of that to answer what may have caused it ...
buuuuut ....
In the meantime, I was wondering what use the ".AC$" file type [a temp file]has to the user, if any. :cripes:
I have the the temp file from the very moment BEFORE the file got damaged, it has about 3MB of data, almost exactly the same size as the DWG file, so I was trying to figure out a way I could associate it with the file that it came from in hopes that it would still have the correct geometry intact.
Is there anyuthing that can be done wth these files?
I tried searching this forum for it, but the "$" character doesn't insert into the query string .... ;\
Tahnks folks!

From what I recall only files with the extensions .bak or .sv$ can be renamed to .dwg and subsequently opened. I don't believe temp files can be renamed and opened.
Did you try searching your hard drive for all files with the same name but different file types? In other words, did you search using a wildcard? Example: mycadfilename.*

I wasn't trying to open it by renaming it, I wanted just to reassociate the file with the original or try to do anything with it that might parse some data out of it for that matter ...
I know where all the files are, I just wonder if there's a use for the .AC$ file considering it is the same size as the actual .BAKs and .SV$s .
Is there a way to have the session associate with a temp file once it is past?
Or anything that can be done with it?

.ac$ is a temporary file AutoCAD generates that is not a .dwg format. Sorry, but you are out of luck.

Please RE_READ what I have written Mark ... you seem to be replying to a point that is moot, and I don't want to waste your time.
I didn't ask if it was a DWG format. I am aware it is a temp file. That is why I am asking if anyone knows how to REASSOCIATE the file with the file it belonged to.
Sorry if that wasn't clear. ;)

The temp file cannot be reassociated.

Well I found out why after exhaustive [adn wasted] efforts trying to parse stuff out:
ac$ files do not contain drawing data, only states, undos, views etc ...
Guess that road is NEVER worth following then ... :(
ps: after re-reading I worried that I might have sounded snippy;
text is not my strongest medium, sorry if it seemed that way Mark. ;D

No offense taken. Glad you were able to get a definitive answer.
