I'm going to take the plunge and install Vista on my machine in a day or so but I'd like to get AutoCAD up and running immediately to avoid as little downtime as posible. With Version 2006, is it as easy as copying the Autodesk folder under my existing user's application data and then copy it to the fresh install or is there more to do?

Thanks for any and all info.

always run a fresh install for the program itself. save/export all custom CUI's, Workspaces, and other things (such as Tool Palettes) into a folder, then move/copy that folder to a USB drive or CD. after you reinstall the program, go and and import/load the saved files, and voila - all back to normal. :)

Just a word of warning - I don't think Vista is supported by Autodesk

Appreciate it, and am finding what was said in that thread to be true! Blah! I'll look for some work-arounds and see where I get but if I do not succeed then Vista is going to have to go on my other machine. Glad I bought the full version and not the update due to MS's license policy.

It's pretty nice though, fast, pretty and well organized.

SaWeeeeet!

Looks like if you run it as administrator it works fine. For me, I turned off user control in Vista so that programs do need need to ask me for permission to run. It's a fine solution for me as I work for myself but if you are in a company with an IT scheme I'm sure this would be a no-no.

Anyways, I'm up and running. I am sure in the next few days I could run into potential problems but for now I am astatic, Vista is SO much faster than XP.
