First off, I am using Autocad 2006. When I try to measure distance on the z axis, I always get 0 for my answer. I had one of my co-workers check the file I was measuring and they were able to get a value for the z axis distance. Just curious if anybody has any idea. Thanks.

Are you trying to measure in a plane view, or in an ISO view? Perchance are you using a LT version of AutoCad?

Check your osnapz system variable (2006+ I think)

I checked my osnapz setting, it is set to '0'. This setting matches my co-worker, who does not have a problem.

what's your UCS set to? are you snapping to Endpoints when you're using the DIST command? kinda need some more info on how you're going about doing this. can you upload the file maybe?

Hi,
Well, I've just opened the file and done a distance check and mine displayed 1 in the Z axis.
It all depends on what your UCS is set to in relation to the two circles.
If you type in "Plan" and hit enter twice (to accept plan using the current ucs) their should appear to be only one circle as one is sat directly underneath the other.
Finally, check that your ONSNAP setting have the 'Centre' box ticked, and view the drawing as an iso view (like the way you have posted it here) to ensure you pick the centres of each circle.
By the way, just as an experiment, try turning off all your snap settings except centre and try again. AutoCAD picks up the centre of a circle by pointing to the circumference, not the centre.
Hope this helps.

If you are working in 3D it is usually better to view your objects in a 3D view.
Try using the Orbit command or toolbar to view your objects from any direction.
Also it might help if you turn off the ORTHO when snapping from one point to another, whilst measuring.
