Hello, to describe Rhinoceros let me just start with the history.

2nd off, Thank You CADTutor for making this sub-forum, here's to its apeall and success as I think you do a good thing that builds on what you have here: support, tips, tricks, tutorials & community

Founded in 1980, Robert McNeel & Associates (McNeel) is a privately held,
employee-owned company that develops, publishes, markets, and supports
software for technical professionals.

The company was founded in 1978 by Robert McNeel

In 1983 the company moved to Seattle and began doing business as Robert
McNeel & Associates. About the same time, to meet the needs of its expanding
engineering and architectural firm client base, McNeel began providing and
supporting the emerging personal computer aided drafting (CAD) products.

Over
the next ten years, McNeel focused on replacing drafting tables with productive
AutoCAD systems. McNeel’s software development focused on tools for using
AutoCAD drawings and related data in all business processes including design,
contact documentation, planning, marketing, and facilities maintenance.
In 1992 a development project was started to solve the complex, high precision
geometric modeling problems in the marine industry using NURBS technology.
The first product based on this technology, Rhinoceros, shipped in October 1998.
Since then, Rhino has become the modeling tool of choice for designers of freeform
shapes that need high precision including airfoils, hydrofoils, aerodynamics,
and optics or need to “capture the heart” with unique style, comfort, fashion,
ergonomics, atmosphere, and experience.
