Do you mean entering "customize" and picking a tool button to edit it's icon, or do you mean actually deleting a tool button from a tool bar?

When I'm customizing. i.e. I have the standard tool bars and the express tool bars, well they arent organized that well so I moved some icons from an express tool bar to the standard tool bar (i.e modify icons grouped together) It allowed me to do that but it retained the original icons in the express tool bar ( now i have 2 icons for certain functions)...well screen space is premium...i need to delete the old copy it wont allow me to do that

Enter "customize", pick the tool button you want to delete, right-click it, and choose delete and see if that works.

It allows me to everything I want to do, but gives the messag I had indicated in my original message. It will only the keep the new settings until I log off/ exit autocad. when I turn off/log off and come back on the next time, the changes disappear.

Are you on a network? If so, you probably do not have appropriate rights to update the .mns file.

That is strange... cut and paste the ".mns" file in a folder that is not in the support file search path (for safe keeping), and try your modifications. The .mns is automatically generated by AutoCAD so hopefully this will work.

There was a thread a while back here on this. Someone was also getting the wee smily face as an icon rather than the correct *.bmp

No, I'm not trying to alter the icon image. I just have multiple icons and icons I will not be using in the forseeable future.....that I need to get off my tool bar(s).

Hi!
Can you create your own menu? If so, copy to your menu all buttons from acad and express you want. Then close original toolbars. How to create own menu-this is so many words to describe there...
