This may seem a simply daft question. I have cad on 3 PC's - Work, college and home.
I have no problem with the first two only the one I have at home. if (as I often do) forget to select the corect layer I attempt to change it by using the grips. It allows the object to be picked but for some reason it will not let me change layers. All the layers are open and none are frozen.
I have mentioned it to my college tutor but he said he would need to see it which isn't really practical.
Can anyone on the forum please help?

Thanks Moz

If you press ctrl 1 you get the properties box. Then hit the drop down layer menu and choose your layer. I, like you, forget all the time and find this method quite easy to tidy everything up at a later date :)

It's not on a locked layer, is it?

Do you mean you are selecting the grips then trying to change the layer? Don't select the grips, but rather select/highlight the object, then pick "by layer" from the Object Properties tool-bar. You might want to start using Match Properties to do this (it has the paint brush icon).

If you like the settings on one computer, and want to transfer it to another, I recommend using Hyprvar. Start a new drawing on the computer you like and then run Hyprvar. It will make a script file with the variable settings. Then simply take that new script to your home computer and run it. Finally, save that drawing as a template.

If a pupil in my class has used the wrong layer or used "by color" in the layer color rather than my preferred "by layer" then I select it (the object)pull down the correct layer and select it then click the drawing screen and then hit escape, then the object is on the right layer.

Maybe you have used the 'defpoints layer' ?
