So I've just spent £1000+ on a laptop and tried to run map 3d 2006 on vista and it isn't happy. I've done a search here and changed the compatibility settings as advised but it's not running as normal.
Is there anything i can do or do i have to wait and shell out for 2008. And will that work? Please help or i am in big trouble! :(

The official word from Autodesk is that AutoCAD 2008 will be compatible with Windows Vista. In other words, all other versions are not supported.

Thanks. Is it worth using 2006 at all with vista or not?

Well personally, I wouldn't bother. You could struggle with it if you're desperate but there will be little help available and absolutely no support from Autodesk.
I know it's great having a shiny new laptop but I'd wait until 2008 before giving AutoCAD a spin on Vista. :(
