I got the CAD files from outsource, and when I was trying to print it out in some specified scale, say, 1:30, the print out doesn't seem to be printed in 1:30. Can you guys tell me what could be the reason is?
Thanks

Possible reasons:
1. Objects not drawn to full scale
2. Plotting to "Fit" instead of to a "Scale"
3. Is the original in Architectural units and you are plotting to a decimal scale (e.g. 1"=30')?
4. If plotting from paperspace, is the viewport scale 1:30? If so, is your plot scale 1:1?

Thanks, it seems to be tht the CAD file is in Architect scale. So could you please tell me wot should I suppose to do now to get the plot in specified scale?
Thanks

Here's the way I probably would do it (remember there is more than 1 way to skin a cat)
Make a copy of the original dwg file
Change the units from Architect's to Decimal
Scale all entities by a factor of 1/12, use a base point of 0,0
In paperspace, make a viewport (Mview); all the entities should zoom to extents.
Zoom > Center (pick a point) > Scale factor of 1/30xp (for 1"=30').
Lock the viewport
Plot from paperspace using a scale factor of 1:1

why do all that?..if you want 1"=30' then 1"=30x12 therfore
1/360xp...
as an excellent practice you should always have your model space stuff drawn at 1:1...

Agreed. Unless you are drawing the Golden Gate bridge, draw to 1:1 scale in model space. Then scale to print in a Layout.
After all that's what Layout was designed for by Autodesk.

I guess I suggested that way because I work exclusively in Decimal units (Civil/Surveying). When I get a dwg from an architect I have to convert it into decimal units for inclusion on our dwgs, and that's how I do it. Like I said, there's more than 1 way to skin a cat.

i think the trick to get the zooms correct is that your title block in paper space must be drawn in the same units as your model space, ie match inches with inches, mm with mm, parsecs with parsecs etc...
if they don't then some extra math is required to get the xp factor right...
