how do i get rid of a .SHX

i receive files from architects in which i use for background for my electrical and fire alarm designs. when these files are sent to me i like to strip out all the unnecessary symbols, notes, etc. as well as put everything onto one layer and purge anything not used.

i went through this process with a site plan this morning and now when i open the site plan i get a prompt to locate UA-SITE31.shx. it says its a shape font. how do i get rid of this? i dont even know where its missing from.
