I AutoCAD 2006 I created a solid and I used the FLATTEN command to get its 2D image. But measuring the dimensions I see some differrences!
Please someone using AutoCAD 2006 to help me with this:
With ORTHO on, start the PLINE command. Click any point, move the cursor to right and enter from the keybord 111. Move the cursor up and enter 222. Enter C to close the shape. Extrude it at any length -the tapper angle must be zero. use the FLATTEN command and measure the horisontal and the vertical lines. Do you get 111 and 222? Is it only my computer out of its mind?
I am wondering how many times I closed a work with such dimensional imperfections!

I'm getting distortion in 2004 mechanical of about .3 units. That doesn't inspire confidence in that command.

I also get errors - the short leg became 110.9365, the y leg stayed 222.0, even with different extrusion heights. Glad I don't have to rely on that command!

When I attempt to flatten it I the following message: No Translatable objects. Looking through help I did find the FLATSHOT command which turns a 3D object into a block projected on the XY plane. Not sure if it's available in earlier versions, but worth looking into. When I used it I got the correct measurements.

Use explode command instead of flatten. It is maybe more complicate after to work with it but dimension stay unchanged

I discovered the FLATTEN command and I thought that is a good replacement for the Solprof and Solview/Soldraw -working right from model space and without extra layers. It sounds like I will tourn back to the old way...:(
Thank you too for answering.

Do you mean explode before you flatten?
I am trying to make an isometric, so simply exploding won't work in that regard, that's why I ask.

I have another thread in the beginners area about this
I keep getting triagular shapes instead of circles ...
is this part of the same issue?
I'll try that other command as well ...
glad to see I'm not the only being troubled by this though! :B

Traingles instead of circles.hmmmm......

Circle Smootheness setting in ... If I can remember

Right Click the command line, choose OPTIONS then DISPLAY tab then change the settigns in the topright Display Settings. Normally I have arc and circle smoothness set at 1000.

That's for 2004 if memory serves.
