Hi again Guys,

I will appoligize right now for what will probably be a repetitive question and I did look through Search and FAQ but with no luck. I need to make 2 or 3 different Metric Templates such as meter, mm and so forth, Does anyone know of an understandable conversion chart(s) between ft./inch and metric. I have a good grip on imperial, just a little weak on the metric side. I understand scale factors such as 24, 48, 96, etc just not what would be comparable in the metric word. Any help or a good point would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

In the UK (possibly the EU too) the main scale factors are 2 & 5. So 10:1, 5:1, 2:1, 1:1, 1:2, 1:5, 1:10, 1:20, 1:50 etc.

Our drawing sheets are A0, A1, A2, A3 & A4. The proportions are identical, each having a scale factor of 2 over their neighbour. An A1 cut in 4 gives you 4 x A3 sheets. By playing with different size sheets and these scale factors gives a good choice of drawing size. (I think) the area of an A0 is 1m^2. A4 is about the same size as US letter.

Our basic unit is the mm and there are 25,4mm = 1"
obviously that gives 12 x 25,4mm = 1 foot.
1000mm = 1 meter. You will probably encounter the centimeter (cm) but it is not usually used in engineering. 10mm = 1cm.

The calculator in AutoCAD (if you have it) has a conversion module.
