New forum File Manager for file upload

Those of you who have been wailting for an easy way to upload image files for use in your posts need wait no longer. The CADTutor Forum File Manager (http://www.cadimage.net/fileman/) provides an easy way to upload files without setting up hosting accounts or FTP. It's completely web based and it's free.

Use File Manager guest account to upload an image and then add that image to a post using the URL http://www.cadimage.net/postimages/filename - it couldn't be easier. :D

The guest account only allows for file upload and that's all. This is a security thing. If I allow files to be deleted from the guest account, it would be possible for some malicious person to delete all files in that account and the forum would lose all its images.

The guest account will be the easiest way for most users to add images to their posts but I am happy to set up personal accounts for those who need them. These accounts allow for upload, deletion, renaming, folder creation etc.

No, the guidelines on image and file size are the same as before. The reason for this is that very large images make the forum difficult to read and require users to scroll to see the full image. A max image size of 600x600 should be adequate for most purposes. File size should be kept to a maximum of around 50K per image. This helps to keep the forum speedy.

Please think about these limitations. Posting large pictures you will force the reader to repeatedly scroll to right and left for read the last few words in the text rows.
When you create a screen capture and you paste it in Paint or in other image editor it will take you just a few seconds to cut down the margins. Show us the image you are talking about, not your task bar with a lot of applications opened at the same time. :)
On the Net you will find a lot of recommendations about what image file format to use for a specific image.
I use a free program called Irfanview, you may download it from HERE (http://www.irfanview.com/).
With this you can cut the margins, decrease the color depth, resize the image and save the file in a huge variety of formats. I save the image 3-4 times in various formats and sizes. Often I can’t see any quality differences, so I choose the smallest file to post -in this way the image will load faster.
If your software offers an "Optimize for Web" facility, use it.
When posting a large image, put the [ img] tag on a new line.

I really like and use Irfanview.

You mention cutting margins. I haven't ever been able to figure out how to do it. I see the canvas size, but it only makes a outer margin.

Are you able to crop in Irfanview? If so, I would really appreciate some tips.

Do you use the latest version? Click the image, hold (the left button) and drag diagonally. Release the button and you have a rectangle on the screen. Press CTRL+Y. Save or Save As the file.
If you wish to process a lot of screen captures use the Batch Conversion mode -just press B and set the Advanced Options.
Very strong program; I consider it a "must have".

I would just like to endorse everything that Fuccaro has said. Posting images with large pixel dimensions and large file sizes makes the forum difficult to read for all users. Please abide by these recommendations (http://cadtutor.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=183). Problem images will be removed.

Irfanview is a great free app. for anyone who does not have access to Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro and it will enable to to conform to the standards for posted images requested on this forum.
