I have two drawings open which appear identical in every aspect, except that on one my dashed line is dashed while on the other it is continuous. I cannot find the setting which would cause this. Does anyone have any ideas?

Look into LTSCALE and PSLTSCALE.

I know about ltscale & psltscale, this problem is in model space only & the ltscale in both files is set to 1.

Could it be that the linetype scales (CELTSCALE) of the individual lines are set differently?

no, the individual line scales are the same

Um, all righty then...I'm stumped. Anybody else care to chime in? :-)

that's exactly how I feel, but thanks for your input.

Is it possible that one of the lines is set to Bylayer and the other is set to Byblock, continuous etc?Simple I know but could've been easily over looked.Maybe one drawing needs to be refreshed to display the linetypes correctly.

Properties

either dbl click the line and check in the pop up property docker at Linetype scale factor

or Ctrl+1 and the property docker pops up

I have two things to say you:
1. Just my guess: are the two drawings shaded in the same way?
2. Hello! How are you? :D

Thanks everyone for your help, but:

-the lines in both drawings are set to Bylayer
-their properties are identical
-they are both shaded in 2D Wireframe

What I have been able to do is get the dashed lines to look the same by changing the ltscale; for the one it is 100 & the other it is 2000. So there seems to be a difference by a factor of 20, but I cannot find where this is.

Probably a silly question, but are the linetypes of the *layers* the same? Also, this is in regular modelspace and not a viewport, right?

yes, both are drawn in layer '0' which is set to 'continuous' & are in modelspace.

Then how are they dashed? :-)

Send me the drawings if you wnat and I'll see if I can work it out.Just another set of fresh eyes looking at it.I'll send you my email through a PM if you want.

Kate: I've changed the line's property to dashed, but kept the layer's at continuous.

Hyposmurf: I will email you the files now - thanks.

thats fine,if drawing is quite big tell me and I'll give you another email address.Anything over 1000 kb I mean.

Had a look at both your drawings and the properties and lists for both are identical. They are on the same layer linetype etc.The strange thing is that when I open the two drawings both appear to look the same to,on dashed linetype! What I do notice however though is that one of the drawings is set to 100LTSCALE and the other is set to 2000 LTSCALE.You have named the drawings lts2000 & lts100,did you know the drawings are on different LTSCALES then? That would be why drawing appears to be to be on a continuous linetype as you will have to change the LTSCALE for it to appear dashed.Try changing one of the drawings to LTSCALE of 1,youll notice the dashed linetype disappears and becomes continuous :)

Howdy!

1. ltscale for a 1/8 scale drawing (model space) should be set to 24 +/-.
2. psltscale should always be 0. That way paperspace will see the lines as dashed as in model space.
3. Do not worry if you cannot "see" on the screen the dashed lines. That's an AutoCAD thing. What counts is when the drawing is plotted.

If dashed lines are still not visible as dashed on a plotted drawing, tweak the ltscale (line type scale).

Good luck!
