dimension problem

I was drawing a picket railing. When I tried to baseline dimension it I put my first linear dimension on it then went to baseline dimension it and instead of the dimensions stacking up they all were going on the same line on top of each other.

I was in a hurry, so I just finished it by using individual linear dims (tedious)

Anyone have this problem? A glitch? I tried closing the drawing and reopening it, same thing.

Sounds like CONTINUE dimension would have been better.

CONTINUE gives me running dims, I could not get it to baseline dim
