Morning All
On my 3rd coffee already.
Can somebody tell me an easy way of shortening items.
I have been using the stretch command a fair bit but don't know how to shrink or shorten something.
For eg if I insert a block of a window I explode it ( I realize you can't stretch blocks. ) If I want to stretch it from say 1200mm to 1800mm thats fine, but if I want to go the other way say 1200mm to 800mm I don't know how to do it. :wink:
Is there an easy way to do this?
Easy instructions please.
Thanks All

Simple, DODGE.......

I'm assuming your windows run east-west (X direction) and/or north-south (Y direction). I'll use the way we set angles to show you how.....north is 0 deg with angles increasing clockwise.....east is 90 deg, south is 180 deg and west is 270 deg.

STRETCH, pick one end of window (in this case the RHS end), pick any (random) base point, then type @600<90 to increase the size, or type @400<270 to decrease size.
The 400 is the distance you want to move the stretch, and the 270 is the angle (direction).

Yell if you have trouble following me....:)

Bloody Magic.
I am thinking of buying a new screen, at the mo I'm using a 19"
What size do you use?
I'm thinking of a 22" what would you recommend?
Thanks Dodge

At the moment I'm using a 19" LCD.....I would love to go bigger. Just be careful that your video card will be able to get the resolution you want if you go to 22". If it can handle it, then I would definitly go for the larger monitor.

Just as a matter of interest, DODGE......

How have you got your units and angles set up ? Let me know for future reference.... :)

If I understood this correctly.. (and you're just stretching horiz and vert) put ORTHO on, hit STRETCH - then window select the area (in your case, one end of the window) you wanna stretch - then put cursor in general direction and input amount (in your case 400).

Hi Al
Set as follows:
Length Type = Decimal
Angle Type = Decimal Degrees
Precision = 0
Insertion Scale units = Millimeters

You just point the cursor in the direction you wanna shrink... don't put any minus in, or any angles - the amount only. Try it, or I'll think I'm going mad!

DODGE,

I'm after your angle set up......where is your angle origin.....
i.e. is it...
North = 0 deg
South = 0 deg
East = 0 deg
West = 0 deg

and are your angles measured clockwise or counter clockwise ?

Hi Al
East = 0 and counter clockwise I thought this was the way for Architectural.

Hi Jenn
Yep I have just tried that and itworks.
Just like me not to try the obvious. That's the thing with AutoCad there are 20 ways of doing the same thing.
Thanks for that.
What part of the planet are you on?

Yeah, DODGE......that's the architectural way (not the civil eng or survey way). But I would stick to that....I just needed to know so I can better help you with any future queries. :)

Cheers
