Its a bit off the subject but I started a new job and the computer I have here seems to show my C:\ as full (279Gb) with about 4Gb available... I defragged and clean out a ton of stuff and there is nothing in it with any sort of considerable size...

When I defragged it showed a lot of green being "unmovable files"

Anyone have any idea what I need to do or know where all this space has gone to...?

Thanks
Vic

you could try using a program like windirstat (http://windirstat.info/) to give you a graphical representation of what files and folders are taking up the most space on your hard drive.

Just a thought...maybe try cleaning out your temp files. Also, system restore points or windows hibernation files can grow large quickly. I wouldn't imagine those would grow to 100+ GB, though, so you must have something else going on. Maybe try running a prog like CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) to see what it finds.

Try deleting cookies and internet temp files, as well as history, using Internet Explorer/Tools pull down menu. Also delete all files in the folder C:\windows\temp. (Folder name may be different depending on the version of windows installed)

I figured it out... While running AutoCAD Mechanical 2005 I adjusted my virtual mem to 250000 min and 260000 max... So the Pc devoted 250000 to it so it was unmovable and unuseable...

Thanks for the answers

Needless to say, running 250-260GB of virtual memory all the time is complete overkill. You will never see any benefits from doing that, and it basically amounts to wasted resources. Most people I know cap their maximum VM size to 2x or 3x their physical memory size. Anyways, glad you found your problem
