Hi to all, especially the “yoda’s” of in the Forum. I am fairly new to CAD, can find my way around most of the basics but suffer badly with what to a previous paper-and-pen-guy seem the most basic of all: Setting up my page and PRINTING! :?

System detail
CAD 2004 full
Run on Windows XP
Need to set up A1 paper to print off site: Selected ISO (841x 594)MM
What: Landscape plan of large public open space 1km x 2.5km

How: Best way to fix View port scale in paper space to 1:10 / 1: 50 / 1:100 & 1:250 etc?
Try as I may, I am too dense [actually, the force just does not want to help me here] to understand the paper scale using HELP!!

Need: to set op paper space View ports to show;
1. Plant plan @ min 1:100 optimum optimum1:50 scale and then write up plant list in text (I prefer to do this in paper space so as to keep model space less clattered, plant details and sections, scanned images of the master plan to give context to the plant plan….
1.1 Can I rotate the plan in the view port for optimum paper use / layout purposes and.. How?
2. Paving plan, View ports at Scale 1:100, 1:50 and detail areas at 1:10 with sections. Also scanned image of master plan and other as for above

How: Text in paper space; Can it be done outside View port but with lines linked to view port? How? Think of a plant list 100 long trying to find a connection to areas of 1sqm or more…

Now, the issue of notating scale and compass etc…
How do I do a bar scale that relates to the view port in paper space?
Is the “North Point “ an inserted Block in paper space?

How: Best way to fix View port scale in paper space to 1:10 / 1: 50 / 1:100 & 1:250 etc?

make the viewport active. Type Z (for zoom) ~ S (for scale) ~ and then type in your scale factor .... 0.1XP (1:10), 0.5XP (1:2) etc
or you can right-click on your toolbar and select the Viewports toolbar ~ this will give you a selection of "standard" scales to pick from.
you can also "lock" the viewport once you have everything correct. You can have a different scale in each viewport.

Can I rotate the plan in the view port for optimum paper use
you can create a new UCS at the rotation you require and set the view in the viewport to Plan in that UCS, alternatively, you can use Dview Twist option (I prefer changing the UCS)

As for the North Arrow etc, you'll need to set that to match your drawing. I would assume it would be in modelspace alongside your drawing, that way, if you change the angle in the viewport, the arrow will still be pointing North in relation to your drawing.
I'm not sure what you mean by a "bar scale"

text in ps can be done outside the viewport but

Thanks a stack!

Just received the mail but I am all CAD-out for the day having been at it since 6 this morning. Will quickly try basics and then explore further tomorrow

much appreciated

I have spent much time last night reading tutorials, and your notes and tried it out in practice but still feel insecure. For one, the scaling using the comand bar ZOOM, Scale, XP is relative and I do not seem to be able to show scale of say 1:50 [0,02XP] or is this perception only? Is scale relative to paper space at all comaprable to printed layout scale? From apearnace, this does not seem to be the case!

I know you can set scale when printing, but it is the lack of controll over the page layout and appearance that is bugging me at the moment.

Withinn CAD2004 programme files, there are examples in the sample file and this is the controll I am lookin for but do not undersatnd.

you are correct, the scale is relative to paperspace

If you enter a value followed by xp, AutoCAD specifies the scale relative to paper space units. For example, entering .5xp displays model space at half the scale of paper space units. The following illustration shows a number of viewports arranged in paper space. The view in each viewport is scaled relative to paper space. The first view is scaled 1=1 relative to paper space (1xp), the second is scaled .5=1 relative to paper space (.5xp), and so on.
note that this is also relative to the page size you have specified for the layout tab. ~ if you've set your layout tab for a page size of A1, and the viewport at 1:50, [t]then[/i] plotted on A3 or A2, then the scale will be incorrect.
Also, the scaling in the plot tab will need to be at 1:1 and not "scaled to fit".
You may have to adjust your titleblock slightly to fit on the printed sheet.
