Hi
I have asked this question yesterday but for some reason my posting got removed. I have a set of Bespoke hatch patterns and having trouble in loading them into AutoCAD 2008 they worked extremely well in 2004 & 2006 but I can’t find the folder to past then. I had one reply from a member but did not have the time to act on it but when fond time my posting and replies had been removed so after rewording my post just in case I upset someone I am asking the same question. So if anyone can help it would be appreciated. Regards Alan

I recall my suggestion was to type the following to find your hatch file;

(findfile "acad.pat")

Next to that file should be your metric hatch file, "acadiso.pat"

Hi one and all

Firstly I would like to say a big thank you for all the help you have given to date on this matter.

Well you said to yell if I needed any more help well I am yelling

I have not started to pull my hear just at the moment but I could be getting close well hitting the sprit bottle.

Before we do anything else please bear in mind the my system is windows vista and it don’t seem to store the info in the same place as the old XP

I have put a search party out for *.pat and I am told it can be found in or at support ( c: pregame files\Autocad\ user data cache) and do you know what is a CorelDraw file
and the same goes for acad.pat and acadiso.pat that’s correct both are CorelDraw files.

If I go down the path of:-

Appdata / local / Autodesk / Autocad 2008 / R17.1 / enu / support we end up with info centre which is a xml file

And one last thing I have my system on to show hidden files. So if you have any suggestions I would be most grateful.

I don't know about 2008, but in 2007, the support files were moved to document & settings folders, and then from there it depends on if you computer is hooked up to a server, the type of sign-in for the server, ect...

Carl B. was right when he said to search for "acad.pat" file. If you need help with how to search for it, just ask, otherwise we assume that you already know how.

Hi

Yes I put (findfile "acad.pat") in the command line searched for that and could not find it.

If I search for userdatacache then support I find the files in question I think but they are down as linetype can’t see anything to do with patterns

You may wish to explain in simple teams as I am only a humble cabinet maker and not really in to this bag of tricks.

Hello one and all

I hope you all have got your singing voice ready well you are going to need it so after three “you are the champions”, “you are the champions”, “you are the champions”, of the bespoke hatch patterns.

We have lift off:

As you know when looking for this elusive acadiso.pat all I could find was a CorelDraw file no matter where I searched the roundup gang always came back with this Corel file, so after sleeping on in I decided to give the CorelDraw programme I have had installed on the box of tricks it’s marching orders but it was still lingering in the background and would not let go of AutoCAD. So I let AutoCAD to repair its self and it’s all working a.o.k. I don’t know what will happen when I reinstall Corel I haven’t got the time now as I am off to the workshop play with the wood shaving people, but I will keep you informed. Once again thank you all for all your help.

Now be good and look after your selves and if you can’t be good then be careful.

Regards
Alan

Good evening one and all

Latest update on the saga of the hatch patterns, well I am pleased to enlighten you all that all is well after me reinstalling CorelDraw 10 so CorelDraw was the big bad boy. I have told him off and threatened to remove all his files and never to reinstall them ever again if he does not play ball with 2008. Once again thank every one of you for all your help.

The moral of this story is beware of CorelDraw being installed before AutoCAD 2008. So until the next time look after your selves.

Regards
Alan

G' Day Alan
Alan I am interested in what AutoCad does for you in the cabinet making industry. Are you able to post some drawings you have done
of kitchens and bathrooms etc you have done with AutoCad?
I do mainly domestic house plans but have been asked by Kitchen and Bathroom designers if Autocad would be suitable for them. I know there are a lot of of specific cad programs out there for kitchen design etc.
Thanks Dodge

Why Hello there my colonial cousin

I trust you are well and in god spirits and not missing your mother land to much.

Autocad and the cabinet industry is like cad in engineering or any trade. I only draw in 2D as that is the limitation of my gray matter I just can’t get my head round 3D. Considering I am not a architect I drawer in as much detail as possible so the client knows what they are going to get so if the drawing say’ red spots that’s what they get and when they ask what about the black triangles I say show be on the drawing! I also produce a detailed specification for the client’s approval.

As well as drawing the layout of the room or part of the room where my cabinetry will be sitting, I also produce detailed drawings of the item it’s self this allows me to produce very detailed material lists and hence cutting lists this is very good when it comes to a lot panels all the same size. I can then pass on my requirements to the company I purchase my boards from so they can cut a large proportion for me on their out of this world computerised cutting machine so the panels come spot on size as long as the design is correct.

I use layers for different lines etc to give an example draw line this I use for the outline, mould line to show mouldings and cut line to show the joints as well as hatch line. I use a set of bespoke hatch patterns produce by a very nice man Charles Sweeneyhttp://HatchPatterns.com (http://hatchpatterns.com/)Wood and stone hatch patterns for AutoCADinfo@hatchpatterns.com (info@hatchpatterns.com)I manly use the wood grain.

Many of the sanitary wear manufactures also produce cad drawings which I find very useful http://www.thebluebook.co.uk/ (http://www.thebluebook.co.uk/)

The side effect of all this cad work if builder is employed by the client and I need building work carried out that I can’t do myself he knows exactly what I need and expect from him and his gang of merry men.

I have some of my furniture fittings from http://www.hettich.com (http://www.hettich.com/) and they do a nice little programme or did a very nice little programme that not only tells you this size of the boards but also what draw runners you need etc and the drilling pattern, I have never used it but had a play and its good but it’s for big companies not one man and his dog companies like me. But if you would like to make contact with Chris his email address is chris_perkins@uk.hettich.com (chris_perkins@uk.hettich.com) he talks to any one so I am sure he won’t mind talking to someone in Oz

I will be only be too pleased to send you a drawing or two so you can see what I produce and only help they are of some use. So sir let me have your email address send via personnel message and I will sort some out for you send them in cad so you can see what I mean about the layer etc and a PDF copy of each of them or may be even better you could let me have your address and I will put them on CD with a lot of other information that you may find of help or interest.

I hope this has been of some help if not a lot.

Alan,

Here I was beleiving that you were an absolute beginner......

You sound like you have dived into this computer stuff head and all.....:D

I hope you stick around and impart your knowledge to our great number of members, just as you have just done with DODGE. By the way, DODGE is an old mate of ours, we all look after him.

Just one other thing.......only post once in one section of the forum....all members will see that one post and will respond accordingly. It just confuses us when there are multiple posts.

Sorry if I have offended you.....not intentional.......just enjoy the responses you get, and enjoy the forum and become an active member. o:)

Cheers

Hi Alan

I suppose we need some to look after the colonies so it might as well be you and dodge.

When I was at school I wanted to be a draftsman or architect and I very much enjoyed Tec drawing.

I have worked in the construction industry all my life and that has been many, many moons and before falling for cancer some fifteen years ago now I ended up as finishing contract manager for one or two major companies but preferred working for small companies doing real quality jobs, jobs that you can stand back from and say yes just like a job in the town or a blind man would be pleased to see riding on the top deck of a double decker bus on the way to Blackpool. In other words jobs that you are proud of.

To recover or help in the recovery of my heath and well being I went back to basics in other words back to my trade a cabinet maker and built up a small business serving only private clients no commercial work what’s so ever never, never again whose days are long gone and never to return. I had my very first computer some five/ six years ago when XP first hit the streets of the UK and in 2004 learnt to use AutoCAD 2004 at the local collage and gained my city and guilds level two, I now have 2008 installed.

I use the computer as a tool in my tool box and learn the parts that need to learn and that is all. As I want to produce top quality drawings to match “even if I do say it myself” the work I produce in my work shop I after use all the tools in my tool box.

My main problem I will not experiment and press all the keys just in case this bag of tricks throws all sorts of nasty things at me, I should have two bags of tricks one for best and one to play with so it won’t matter if it goes belly up.

You have not offended me at all my original post was in two sections because I did not know how popular this site was plus I didn’t know what section to put it under. So don’t slap my legs to hard I have lent my lesion and will not do it again promise.

Life is a two way street and if you can help others out along the way well you do, do you not?

I am now off to pour myself out a drop of Scotland’s finest medication.

Regards Alan

Thanks Alan
You are very helpfull.
I am an Architectural Draftsman but only got into Cad myself about 6 months ago. Alan Cullen up north was one of the first to get me started on this forum. It's a great source of info. All I have ever used is this forum and my AutoCad bible by Ellen Finkelstein.
Even tho I still struggle I could never go back to pen and ink, and I am a bit like you, I am always worried to press certain buttons etc in case I stuff something up, but hey you gotta experiment.
If you can send some drawings that would be great, my email is

Hi DODGE

This is a very quick reply as I am off to the work shop to play with the wood shaving people we are starting a new project to day. But I will sort out some drawing this evening and post them off to you to cast your eye over them in fact I will send you a copy of the project I am about to start today. I will send it in 2004 and 2008 so you should be able to open it some way. When I next talk to Chris I will ask him about that small programme and see if I can get hold of a demo CD.

You may want to treat yourself to a set of these bespoke hatch patterns they will really smarten up your drawings just give them that sparkle.

Any way I am off I will give your regards to the wood shaving people and all their friends.

Hi Dodge

I have sorted out a few drawings for you to cast you eye over. I will be sending them over a number of emails seven I think so they fly through the air waves in supper quick time the largest is 3mb, I will also be sending you a few photos as well.

You will see there are two copies of each drawing one saved in 2000 and the second in 2007 so you should be able to open them.

Alan
