Right my first silly 3Dmodelling question as I'm having a go at it.I know how to make solids and create unions, problem is that when I use the subtract command it doesnt appear to work.I choose the object then enter, then I go to select again ,but am only able to select the entire block again!

are you subtracting from solids? you do relize you cant subtract a block from a block, they must both be solids.

I create two solid objects then I union them together,so I want to just subtract them to see the subtract process. But it wont subtract the objects still stay unioned together

ah, OK
so you have two solids, then you union them together to
create 1 solid, right? Then you want to split them back the way they were, right?
well,you cant.
But if you copy your two solids and keep them aside, you can use these copies to subtract from the unioned solid.
Strange, i know.

you can use the slice command on the solids editing toolbar.
take some time in reading the help files on the solid editing tools,i have been 3d modelling and rendering for about 4 years now and have only really discovered the power of a couple of the solids editing commands.

hyposmurf... subtract doesn't work like that. the "subtract" command is intended to subtract one solid from another solid.
i.e. if you have a rectangular block and want to subtract a cylinder from it to create a hole through the block

I get it!Its used really when you want to use the subtract as a cutting tool.Oh well,I'm sure youll hear some more questions when I get back to some 3D stuff :)
