Hi Everyone,

I am wanting to purchase a autocad but want to also be able to use it for business purposes. I would have it installed at home with me been the sole user.

Which version does everyone think will be the best to purchase? I have been looking at either 2005 or 2006. Is it worth getting the full blown version or would LT be sufficient?

Does anyone know where I can get good deals for autocad? Are there any issues purchasing from overseas if it is cheaper

I am still fairly new to this all so sorry about all the Q's :).

Which version will be best to purchase?

That depends on how much you're willing to spend, whether you need full 3D capability, and what you're going to be doing with the software.

Which version is best?

Get the latest version that you can.

Good deals on AutoCAD?

Try Amazon.com and then check the price against an authorized reseller. Do not attempt to buy on the "black market". You could end up with pirated software from China.

Thanks for that. I have been doing some research and think I'll go with the LT version as I only work with 2D drawings.

I live in Australia and Autocad LT 2007 goes for around AUS$1900 but I can get it from the US for AUS$1000 including postage etc.

Does anyone know if there are any legal issues purchasing from overseas?

Cheers

Subscription based purchasing would be a better way to go. That way you dont get stuck with old revisions, as you get updates as they come out.

I don't think you can buy a "previous version". So AutoCAD 2008 is all you can legally buy.

Contact your local reseller or chances are you are going to lose your money.

You can sometimes nab old versions of LT in various locations like Ebay, Amazon.com, etc. still new and in the box = fully legal. Sometimes you can get previous full versions from the resellers, but they will likely charge you the same price as the new versions.

There is a big case right now about selling old used versions if you haven't heard about it.
