Hi,

I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me. I have two questions but i will post them as a separate thread.

I have about hundreds of layers created in our drawing. we'd like to remove or delete some that we don't need anymore. However, we couldn't remove some because it said there are some contents in them. i went in and checked there there were none. i tried zoom + all and couldn't pick them up in the drawing. Is there a way of forcibly removing the layers from the list in AutoCAD 2005?

Thank you in advance

This may be from xrefs, or blocks. I am not an expert with xrefs but I suspect this is the problem, I had a similiar problem. You may wan't to investigate in this area or search about xrefs and layers. I am sure you already tried a purge

Usually you can't delete current layer and layer that is in use.
Try Express tools. It got nice tool to delete layer.
Sometime work when you close file and open again and try again...

Thank you for your replies.

I actually copied the drawing from other people and pasted onto my drawing. Unsure if that's to do with Xref. I checked and they are not the current layers.

Thank you in advance

Thank you for the links. I tried to use purge and it only deleted some. There are still a lot of them. I'd like to use Express tools but i couldn't find it in my AutoCad 2005 LT. I also have AutoCAD 2007 LT and AutoCad 2005. How do i download the tools?

Thank you in advance

I'm not sure if LT has express tools but with full AutoCAD it is an install option. Be careful when deleting apparently unmoveable layers. There is a reason that they wern't purged. Sometimes its because the drawing database has got confused in which case there are no side effects. Sometimes it is because that layer is referenced within a block. Deleting that layer MAY (don't know) delete the block too - and deleting a block may cause other problems (usually in a couple of years time).
