thanks alan for your fast response, but its not a stretch problem i am having. its when i move the object , then somehow one of the legs of the dimensions attached to that object stay in the original position and the other leg stretches across the screen still attached to the object. at no point have i used the stretch command....

Hi Kris
Yes I know it is when you are move an object but it also happens sometimes when you stretch and copy that why I directed you the above.
When it happens to me it seems to be how I have selected the object to move or copy.
So I think it all to do with selection.
Sorry I can’t be of any further help but all I can say I have seen the same question asked a number of times on this site, so don’t despair another reply will be along soon. It’s like waiting for a buss you wait an hour or so then two or more come together.

Hi. Your problem is due to the associativety of dimensions.
In the options panel, under User Preferences you can choose if you want your dimensions to be associative or not. The coice you make there will only influences new dimensions.
If you have a part of your draw with dimensions and you want to move it you have first to give the command _dimdisassociate and then select all the dimensions you want to move and confirm with enter.
After that you can move your objects without any problems.
To reassociate the dimensions (if wanted) the command is, guess what :), _dimreassociate
Hope it is helpfull
