I am trying to create a drawing title box to be inserted to all manner of drawings. We have recieved ones done by other companies, that to amend or change the text you have to edit attributes. but i cannot figure out how to set up the title box with editable attributes. Is it possible to amend an existing one??? Any one out there.......... :(

Dan,
It is possible to alter an existing one. Just explode it and change the properties of whatever you like. It may be easier to create new attribute text yourself (ddattdef command). This will give you more control over the appearance of the final text. when everything is in place - just make a block of it - then when you insert the block it will prompt you for all the fields within the block. Or alteratively edit the attributes.
Hope this helps

Bloke is absolutely right. You can modify another block but it's best to do your own. Attributes are really useful and having your own title block with text style and position predefined is a real timesaver and helps your drawings look consistent from one project to another.
It's probably worthwhile looking at the relevant sections of the AutoCAD user guide - it's one of the topics that the guide covers well. Despite the fact that many people find attributes confusing, they are actually quite easy to implement.

Just came across this tutorial on defining attributes:

Damn - that link's now dead CADTutor :(
I've been working in a company that has the odd practice of editing a drawing file that contains the title block and drawing border before inserting it wholesale into a drawing, so when it needs editing you have to delete it, go back to the border file, edit it there, and re-insert it
I suspect they'd be much better off with an editable attribute border - especially as people have a habit of moving the text round the title box to make stuff fit - which can make a set of drawings look quite scrappy
I've forgotten how to do this though, as I've only done it once many years ago
