Hello everybody,
I learned just a few days ago how to work a bit with 3d in acad(2002)I succeeded to do a round stair, but now I don't have any idea how to do the railing which is round and follows the projection of the stair....If u can tell me how to do this. Someone told me with 3dpolyline, extrude, and follow the path. The problem in this case is that the railing resulting it looks like broken, and I refuse to believe that there is no other way.
Thank U

Draw bannister posts on each step then draw a POLYLINE, on each post.
Then extrude along a path. Unfortunatley sometimes it does not like the 3D polyline.
Search on this forum for 3d spiral for further help.

I return with the same issue, got a round (spiral) stair, I did all this in 3d but now I cannot succeed to do the handrail. I searched the forum, I found a way, which is those lisp, and which I never knew that this kind stuff exists(thank you). Most of you are very experienced and understand all this by a simple tip... But I cannot understand SO easy (because I am a novice in acad, second it a foreign language for me) and if you could make the effort to explain to me how to do it I will be very grateful. (I have to do some kind of helix, but the section of my helix is a circle and the circle goes after a circular path, and it grows in height(same kind of extrude after a shape )-it’s still a helix or it has another definition)
Thank you very very much.

When I need to do a set of stairs I create them in Arch Desktop and import them into AutoCad...
As for the helix and lisps... I only use them for mechanical threads, but lately I have been doing those in inventor and migrating them to CAD...
Here is a quick sample... & no it is not rendered, just shaded...lol

Yes, inventor is easier, particularly the visual previews.

Thank you for the option but I rather do this in Autocad, I could also do this in Archicad but it hasn’t the maximum amount of personalized. Anyway I won’t stop looking for that helix and ...and btw I know the difference between shade and render:P

The more I use it the more I like it.. :)
The parts list, balloons, presentations, layouts, basically everything is sooo much easier. Working on some animations as we speak... should have a complete rail set done sometime tomorrow. I'll let you know when it is done so you can pick it to pieces...lol
Take care...

Everyone has their own way of completing a task... In the end we all have to do what we are comfortable with. :D

Sorry about that, wasn't meant to be sarcastic. :(
Take care!

From the images on the link you have given us, it looks like you need to work with the helix lisp routine a bit more. First, you can make the helix smoother by using more segments; second, you will need to start the helix at the top of the first bannister; third, you need to work out what fraction of a turn to use. It looks like your helix is slightly less than one turn. Finally, when the helix looks right, you need to extrude a handrail profile along the helix path.

Thank you very much, now it makes more sense. Silly me I thought that the helix WAS my handrail....I will work now cause tomorrow I have to give this to my boss...I will post the pictures :) Thx al lot!
