My company designs products by creating graphical renderings using Rhino 4.0. We send these renderings as cut files to our supplier who Laser cuts our steel parts to make the product. Our supplier uses AutoCAD to view the file and Sigmanest to program the laser cutter.

Here is our problem.......

Currently we send the cut files to our cutter as a 2 dimensional DWG file.

Our friend at the cutter then opens the file in AutoCAD.

When he opens our DWG file in AutoCAD the curves on our 2Dimensional DWG file are not a continuous line but a series of small lines connected.

Thus our cutter has to redo the entire cut file in CAD so that a Circle cut out is a continuous line and not a series of small connected lines since the laser will only cut a rendering that has continuous lines.....(He see's the small lines when he zooms in on the curved portion of the files)

This is costing my company a lot of money so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Can you "flatten" the file in Rhino before you send it out?

Not sure. I will ask our Designer though would you mind elaborating a bit on how I might do that and why it may help? Thanks for your response.

Well you said that they would use a 2D version of the model from Rhino so I thought you might need a flattened version before opening in AutoCAD. As for how I have no idea, I do use Rhino at the moment. I have a demo installed but no real use for it myself.

Could you "Zip" and post a sample of the Rhino file.

Hi Henry...

Did you try to change the export theme to either:
2004 Polylines
or
R12Lines& Arcs

I just tried it here with 2004 Polylines and my arcs and curves were one piece in AC 2008.
