I have a metal design that I am trying to get built. There is an ellipse in the center and the machinist needs some dimensions for his C&C machine to make the cut. My question is how do I Place dimensions on an ellipse that make sense? Thanks

All ellipses have a MAJOR and MINOR radius. These can be shown as concentric circles.

Read in the help setion of autocad in regards to PELIPSE. PELIPSE is a variable that can be changed which allows the elipse to be drawn with centre points which then can be used in CNC programs.

I tried both suggestions above but could not find a good way to give either a radius or diameter to the different parts of the ellipse. I tried posting the pic but Im not sure how. Any other suggestions would be great, Thanks[/img]

You can DXFOUT the ellipse in R12 format, then DXFIN the file.
You can extract 16 points from ellispe that way. -David

why cant you export your elipse out as a r12 dxf, burn it,email it or put it on a floppy and give it to your machinist. he will then be able to get the dimensions from the dxf. Make sure your initial value is set to one. you can then use the radius dimension tool to give radius dimensions to your ellipse.

Pellipse
Type: Integer
Saved in: Drawing
Initial value: 0

Controls the ellipse type created with ELLIPSE.

0 Creates a true ellipse object.

1 Creates a polyline representation of an ellipse

If you post what you want I can mail you the code back. What system are you using, and is there no canned cycle on your machine to make the ellipse, (there usually is)
