View Full Version : Drawing Border (Text not showing correctly)

My colleague has created a drawing border which I am trying to use for my drawings. However, when I insert the border block into my drawing, a certain string of text seems to appear wrongly justified or spread out. (see attached screenshot for example)

Any ideas why this is happening and what I can do to solve the issue?

check that you both have the same font used for the particular style.

e.g. AutoCAD defaults to txt.shx for STANDARD where we use simplex.shx.

You probably don't have the *.SHX or *.TTF font file. This will cause things to go out of alignment because the spacing of the original font is not anything like the font your AutoCAD version is defaulting, which seems to be ROMANS. Check the text style, and see if you have that font installed, if not the edit the text, or ask him to send the right font file over to you via email. Hope this is what you're after. :)

I have to agree with both of you....., it is a staight out case of no common font......

I'm assuming "colleague" is in your office?

You also have to be careful of using an old font on your computer, when the font has actually been updated since....and the text in the drawing is based on the updated font....and when you open it, it is skrewed....has happened to me a few times.....:(

Oh well....part and parcel of the learning curve.......

We recently had a Russian job come through the office and our tame Russian draughtsman produced all the dual language text. One day I had to print the whole set of drawings (only about 100 of them so not an enormous job) and guess what - no Russian text. Mine was the only machine with an old copy of simplex on it! Everybody elses was up to date.

Hi guys,

You are both right, the text on the border is called Tech Sans Book and has a style name of TS. I don't have this font in my \acad\fonts director. Funny enough neither does he but I do have a font in C:Windows\Fonts called Tech Sans Book (True Type)

I don't understand where he is getting his Tech Sans Book.shx font from if it is not in his \acad\fonts folder?

This is one example of why I BEG people to Etransmit their files to me.
That can save many problems :)

The border was actually sent to us by our client so we cannot change anything. I have since found out my colleague did not create the border.

It may be a custom font. You'll need to get it from them. (the client that is)

I've sorted it now thanks guys. If you copy the c:windows/font *.TTF font into the c:\Program Files\Autocad\Font file, restart AutoCAD & it is able to find the font.

Cheers for you input as ever!

Just goes to show that folks emailing drawings back and forth should use Express/Pack'n'Go to capture everything associated with the drawing and send them all along. Then the recipient doesn't end up without the xrefs, images, fonts, CTB files, etc. I think I'm the only one who uses Pack'n'Go -

But then again, we still get drawings sent to us from outside interests that evidence the drafter's ignorance of the purpose of layers (everything is on Layer 0), snap settings, ortho, quick leaders, etc. So I guess I'm not quite the computer dolt that I thought I was...

First of all, sorry to bring this old thread up.

Secondly, this Tech Sans Book missing font just hit me too.
Reason being, one of our clients specifically uses this in their drawing templates that they want us to work on. Sighs, they know it's a problem, but still they want us to use it. They won't give their font to us, as it was made specifically for them, and as a result they are unable / unwilling to give to us as it is under license blah blah blah.

So, this would be the reason why E-Transmit was not used; just wanted to clear that up.

Did you have that font in the windows directory? I would substitute it with a font as different as possible and tell them it was the best I could do (maybe WingDings would work or Universal Math).

They are aware of the issue AGM; but they steadfastly refuse to deliver the font to anyone else.
now my boss is on their side too, requesting that i patch it and make do

<grumbles ****** clients>

I s'pose you could email / pm the OP (all i can remember is Ste####) and see if he'll send you a copy of the font as he seems to, for whatever reason, have a copy of it.
