I've designed the center of a gate in 2D, and now I can't figure out how to extrude the design. How can I extrude faces that contain splines, or convert splines to polylines?

Heres an image of the design

I'm using Architectural Desktop 2006. If there's a solution involving 3ds max 9 I use that as well.

I'm also going to attach the dwg of the file.

Thanks a lot

I would convert theplines to splines...as far as converting splines to plines..try this :) Works great for me. You may have to mess with how many segments you want to get it right depending on how many segments in the spline.

Thanks for the app. It works with almost all splines, but for some reason it transforms a few into another shape. I've tried adjusting the number of lines. Any ideas?

Yes, I run into that problem with complex shapes alot too. You just need to up the segment amount ALOT. That has worked everytime for me.

For some reason its still giving me the same problem. I've tried all sorts of segment numbers, even the max 32,000. But its not even a complicated spline, 9 points. I have this spline mirrored and copied throughout the drawing and its only this one that is giving me a problem. Do you know of any other ways to convert a spline to a pline? I appreciate all your help in this.

Try the command FLATTEN on the spline..see if that works. You will need express tools.

How did FLATTEN work? I completely forgot about using that...

The REGION command can handle splines, along with other geometry, as long as they are all coplanar. Once you have regions, extruding should no longer be a problem.

I don't have express tools so I can't use the FLATTEN command. I've tried region and boundary and neither of those work. Region wont join any of the splines. And boundary gets caught up when it asks for islands. Again, I appreciate all your help.

Is there possibly a way to make this work with 3ds max 9?

Regions can handle splines, but each implementation of the REGION command needs a closed loop. Some of those loops had to be resolved in your original geometry. See attached sample of gate center.

With regard to the BOUNDARY command, it is particularly sensitive to breaks at the end points(connection points).
