hi, i am using autocad 2006

i have a problem where my autosave disappears. i have tried with the default C:\Documents and Settings\your computer name\Local Settings\Temp\ and also mapped my own storage file C:\autosave to try and see if it makes a difference.

basically, as an example, i can set my autosave to one minute and map it to C:\Documents and Settings etc. then, with my explorer open on the screen showing C:\Documents and Settings etc. then i just let the autosave do its stuff and watch as it drops the sv$ file into the directory. then i close autocad completely and look at sv$ in explorer and it disappears! i have never had this problem before in previous autocads.

in practical terms, if my drawing crashes i cant just go to the last autosave because it has gone.

please help
cheers
kris

that is (as I understand) working as designed. On a clean exit your autosaves will be cleared but in the event of an unexpected shutdown they will remain.

This has been discussed a lot recently so a search should provide a fuller explaination.

You are mistaken. Autosave has worked in the same way since it was introduced.

Autosave files are deleted when AutoCAD closes properly, this is as-designed. If AutoCAD crashes, the autosave files are not deleted.

Just for curiosity purposes, Is the a setting that can be changed so that they do not delete if closed properly?

This is documented on the bottom of that same page.

Consider that....

If you save your drawing prior to exiting AutoCAD, then this saved version will be newer than the autosave file.

If you do not save your drawing prior to exiting AutoCAD, then you obviously don't care about the changes so what good does having the autosave file do?
