I have just installed autocad architecture 2008 onto my laptop and am getting Fatal Error: unhandled c000000dh exception at 781476dh9. Does anybody know what this means? I have previously had this installed onto my desktop no problems so am wondering if its a video card issue or something?

I have sent the report off to autodesk but was wondering if anybody had a quicker solution. In the meantime i have re installed back onto the desktop and am using error free!

Cheers guys

What are you doing when you get the error message?

Nothing. I launch the application (either US metric or US imperial) and it opens up as it would normally, then the error comes up, you click Ok and it closes the application.

As this is a new laptop, i have reinstalled windows to make sure that wasnt a problem but still getting the same error. Incidently autocad works fine!

Thanks for that but apparently the instructions are only for windows vista for AA 2008!? Anyway, i did do a complete re install but still the same problem. The software must be okay because it installs properly on the desktop.

I take it you are running XP. I would still give those steps a try for the 2007 on XP. Have you tried running a spyware/adware remover? Still sounds like your problem is with the windows registry. Do you have all the latest windows and CAD service packs installed? You could try searching Autodesk for any Hotfixes.

I got this suggestion from another forum, and it virtually eliminated the constant fatal errors I was getting. I don't know what it means, or what it does, but if you can get into AutoCAD at all, here it is:

Command: WHIPTHREAD Set to <0>

Thanks guys.

Unfortunately i dont get the option to do anything on the command line as the error comes up on load up. I am using XP and have done a full install so shouldnt be any problems with spyware or viruses. I havnt updated with any autocad patches so i guess that is the next stage. Im just confussed because i am not having any errors at all on the desktop, and the only difference is one has an Nvidea graphics card and one has an ATI Radeon (both are 256mb).

Anyway, thanks for the help, i will let you know how i get on!

I would suggest running a virus/spyware check again. I just did a few searches on Autodesk and it seems similar problems are caused by viuses or spyware. Even if there are not any found at present, your registry could have been affected.

I went to Microsoft sight for a similar problem and I found some steps on checking and repairing the registry. Some previous spyware/adware had made some changes. :o

I use Spybot-Search & Destroy.....http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html

You should be able to find a Video driver compatibility list somewhere on Autodesk.

what are the specs for your laptop?..i'm guessing it's having a problem addressing memory (ram) but it's just a guess...

Its an Acer Aspire 5100 series. It has ATI radeon 256mb graphics, 2gb ram, 1.66ghz dual AMD processor, 120gb HDD running on XP SP2. It did come with Vista which was pre installed with all the Acer software but i have installed my own copy of XP onto it and installed the drivers from the Acer website.

I have not found any virus/spyware after the second check, and have also used reg mechanic to repair registry errors. still same issue. I am going to try a fresh install (of windows) again and see what happens!

I am still racking my brain on this. I would be interested to find out what Autodesk says, but I think it is a Windows problem.

Why did you remove Vista?

I removed Vista just because i had some compatibility issues with some other programmes which were essential to me. No other reason than that.

Have you tried running defrag or error check on the hard drive? How about loading only Arch 2008 and no other programs?

This may be a silly question, but have you ever installed autocad before? Perhaps something is going wrong during install?

Right ok, First off, thanks for the help and suggestions...............

I have now managed to get it working, however, im not sure what the problem was!!

Finally formatted and clean installed again, added all windows updates, driver updates and updated the chipset. Installed AA 2008 again - same problem, so i duplicated all the files from the desktop installation including reg keys and shortcuts and copied them into the AA 2008 installation on the laptop, rebooted and hey presto, it now launches!!

So it looks like for some reason it wasnt installing something as it should! What a way to spend 3 days!!

Thanks again

(by the way - still no response from autodesk!)

I hear you on Autodesk not responding, I sent them a question a few months ago and have never received a response. :(

Glad you got it solved, I figured it was a registry problem.

Might have had something to do with Vista having been on there. :?

if you right click on the shortcuts for the programs that have problems running in vista. you can set the compatability within the options.

I have found that about 95% of my programs that would not work in vista, would work if i set the compatability to XP

Vista is one of the best releases of windows so far (my oppinion) it rarely crashes, rarely has any problems on my machine.
