and wow is it fun!!!
just a quick question... sometimes when i have an editable plane, i can move a selected vertex up, down, right, left.... and then sometimes it's restricted to moving only up and down, or just side to side??
what gives?
is there a setting that prevents you from moving in all directions?

Agreed, Max is a blast.
F5 = Restricts movement to X axis
F6 = Restricts movement to Y axis
F7 = Restricts movement to Z axis
If you have your Axis Constraints toolbar open, you can see when one of your axes is being constrained.
It also depends on where you grab on the Transform Gizmo. It's kind of difficult to explain without visual aids, but if you grab inside one of the little yellow boxes at the base of the gizmo, you can freely move your vertex around in that plane. But if you grab on a line or an arrowhead, you will lock yourself into straight line movement on that axis. Does that make any sense? :unsure:
Hmmmm . . . . . do we need a 3DS Max forum??? :D

well:
1. yeah my issue was when I'd go to grab my materials, i'd accidentally hit the axis gizmo ma-bob and select either x, y, or z... so after trial and error and really paying closer attention... i figured out what i was doing :lol:
and
2. yes, that'd be cool!
