Hello guys!:)
I have just switched from old good AutoCAD 2005 to 2008 and guess what :? - everything is in slowmotion! I managed to turn off some of the Vista style tweaks (they look nice but don't do much good) but still one big problem remains;
Whenever I type in a command that contains two or more letters, it looks like I confirm that command too early (I click RMB quite quick, as I have always been doing) and as a result I launch another command.
For instance:
tr [trim] - i got t [text]
co [copy] - i got c [circle]
and so on..
IT is very, very frustrating... I'm lucky cause the PC is far distance from the window otherwise I would teach it to fly :x
Did you have similar problems?
Is there any way to force CAD to act faster?

Could be the hardware itself. What are your system specs?

I couldn't agree more. I consider most upgades actually being downgrades.
I resist upgrading as long as I can
Years back when Pentiums were new, I got laughed at because I had a 486 60mhrz and autocad 12 for dos instead of the new autocad 13 for windows and running it off a Pentium
They stopped laughing when they saw my lisp routines run instantainious. When I ran the same programe on their computer, it ran so slow you can count each line (slowlyl) as the program was drawing it!

I´m not an IT guy, but I THINK that the problem is the graphics card. If you don´t have a strong graphics card you can have all the memory and processor power in the world and it will still go slow because your processor can only process as fast as your graphic card will let it. Hope this helps. I go buy the rule that I upgrade every time I buy a new computer...that way I can plan what I need in my machine (memory, processor, etc) instead of hoping that it will be enough. Only problem is that with all the programs I use I end up buying new comps every 2 to 3 years because most of the time it´s more expensive to upgrade than to just buy a new machine.

My graphic card - Geforce X800GT
CPU - Athlon 64 3500+
1GB RAM
Should I consider changing the video card? Or perhaps buying more RAM would do the trick? :?

The following is the minimum graphics card requirements for acad 2008 and vista,
1280 x 1024 32-bit color video display adapter (True Color) 128 MB or greater, OpenGL®, or Direct3D® capable workstation class graphics card.
For Windows Vista, a Direct3D capable workstation class graphics card with 128 MB or greater is required.
I don't know how your card stacks up against that.

His video card should stack up great with the requirements. I must say you have a pretty good PC, kind of similar to the one I have (I also have an Athlon processor 3500 and it's doing an awesome job while dealing with CAD issues).
Maybe you have some system conflicts of some sort. I experienced some difficulties myself when I had some ethernet problems. Did you check your device manager and is your video card installed properly? Try running some 3d tests to see if it's working as it should.

You might also want to do some general housecleaning such as deleting temporary Internet files, empty out the Recycle Bin, and perhaps, if it has been a long time, a complete defrag.

Yeah, it's been quite a while actually. Defragmentation is in progress. It's taking forever:wink:
BTW Do you think it would help much if I bought 1 more GB of RAM? Would it make big difference; 1GB/2GB in 2D drafting?

Adding more ram will not hurt.

2GB of RAM will definitely help.

Thumbs up to adding another GB of RAM. Most systems can only really address a max of 3GB anyway unless you want to get creative.
