I know you dont have a section for Architectual Desktop. I was wondering if we could start one? I think it has become a standard for the architectural community and I am sure there is a lot to discuss on the topic, tutorials, how too's etc....

Thanks a lot!

That's a very good idea. Unfortunately I don't use Architectural Desktop myself so I wouldn't be much use but I'd be happy to start a new board for this if you're willing to moderate it. Or you could recommend someone else who could. Any takers?

I would be happy too. Although I dont think I would be able to monitor or modify it as much as you seem to due to work and time. I have yet to use the new version but here in my office I use Architectural Desktop 2 and AutoCAD as well as Solidworks. I am sure if you post a column on the topic people will respond. Although I think the forum could use some more members. All within time. This is the best forums I have used concerning CAD and related programs.

OK, that's fine by me. I'll set up the new board and make you a moderator. I won't hold you to anything but if you know anyone else who could share responsibilities that would be great.

Thanks also for the kind words. It is indeed early days. The forum proper has been live now for just 3 days!

I also welcome the addition of an ADT board. If I can be of any help plaes ask. We have been using ADT now for approx 3 years. Still learning an almost vertical curve.

Well, I'll help with this one as well. I use ADT-2005 at work now. I don't use all of it power but I do use it. I am still learning it.

 This thread was started a long time ago and the upshot was that I created a specific forum for ADT but it was rarely used and so was amalgamated into the "Autodesk software" forum when the board was rationalised about 12 months ago. If you guys think there is now a demand for a specific ADT forum, I'm more than happy to provide it. No doubt that the forum is getting busier and maybe the time is now right.

Let's have a few more opinions...

I figured someone would figure all this out. I didn't think everyone would pop up and start saying "give me a ADT thread!"

I just started using ADT about 2? months ago, Im sure a forumn for ADT would help specify questions to ADT to learn the features of it, if their is enough ADT users to support it.

I don't know, I've never touched ADT in my life. I've done all my floor plans in just plain vanilla AutoCAD. Of course now I work in a manufacturing facility, so I have no need for ADT or any other architectual enhancements.

Pretty soon though, if ADT shows enough stoutness, I might start using it for an upcoming project. My old drafting instructor is going to open a small architectural design firm with his wife. His wife is a graphic design artist, so that'll work out great! Anyways, he said he'd give work to any of his former students. So, I might take him up on that offer and make a little extra dough. :)

I Have used Autocad 2000 and now 2005, at college they had Architectural Desktop. Personally I think there is hardly any difference if there is any one out there that can tell me otherwise. :glare:

So I don't think is any need to start an Architectural Desktop post.

I'm happy to be wrong. :D :x

Hey Roberts, honestly AutoCAD and ADT are like night and day different. In ADT you draw intelligent AEC objects not just lines and circles. Not to say that you can't just draw lines in some instances.

Ive been on just plain CAD for several diffrent versions now from 10 to 06 then i started work at a place that uses ADT the main reason they use it is because some of our clients use it and when they send us files (from what i hear) when we didnt have ADT the wall types would apear as txt like a missing xref, so we switched to ADT and no more prob. I have my ADT setup for the most part to look and work just like plain CAD with the addition of the features from ADT. I dont think their is anything i cant do that i could b4 but their is a lot more things that i can do now but having not ever used ADT features b4 Im having difficulty customising and modifying things.

Im not sure if a forumn is absolutly nessacary, Ive already been asking questions in the general forumn and have had replys, but if their was a ADT forumn it would be a more specific location for questions of this type.

Well once you have your wall styles nailed down you can really start doing plans a lot faster. After that the ability to auto-generate elevations is a no-brainer. Now having said that we have not figured out a good way to do roof slabs so we don't do them in ADT. Now I use SketchUp with ADT to do my roofs. I can export a 3d model of my walls from ADT to SU or even just a base plan. I then generate a 3d massing model of my house and then export flat, 2D dwg files from SU of my elevations. I then bring these in ADT and continue on with my construction documents. In all we use probably 20-25% of ADT's power. Alot of it we will never use. I think AutoDesk should make a ADT light for residential use.
