I'm currently working in the Civil domain where we use a LOT of hatches. Hatches like: sand, gravel, earth, concrete, brick, steel, solid are very common in our drawings.
As time goes by, I get bigger and bigger assignments and unfortunately I spend more and more time with the damn hatches ;they are getting pretty frustrating.

There is a great LACK of hatches in my Autocad 2007 that we use in our drawings (or supposed to use), like different types of stone, gravel, plaster, combined masonry... so, you've probably guessed it, I have to draw them manually..

Do you guys have an answer to my problem, or do you know from where can I get more civil hatches? It would be a big help for me and my colleagues.

I got quite a number of decent hatches from an add-on called Freemust.
you can find it here - http://www.freemust.com/

You can search the WWW and find plenty of hatches. You can also create and save your own hatch patterns, no need to keep redrawing them.

Unfortunately I cannot download & install anything our company restrict us I have to use our IT dept & they are not very CAD friendly! I am looking for a Durbar pattern hatch for metal floor plates. Had one many years ago but lost it. Autocad's range is very limited seems to be the same as it was 15 years ago!

Superhatch is found in Express Tools. Depending on your ACAD version, you may need to install the tools from the CD.

Links to hatch pattern collections are here:

If you can't find the right pattern or want to save the time spent searching you can create or edit your own hatch patterns with a hatch pattern utility such as HatchKit.

hi exorcist,

you can also try cben.net - it can take a bit of trawling but they do have some good .pat files - i have one with 250 patterns.

How do you create and save your own?

I have done it before, but I didn't know what I was doing. I spent 5 hours playing with .pat file, hatch with my new hatch pattern, see what it looked like, then play with .pat some more.

I went back and forth over 20 times and with enough playing, I made a hatch pattern for checker plate (or diamond deck or whatever you want to call it)

Thank you all for your help, I entered the websites you guys suggested and also searched the internet for even MORE hatches and I have to say, I now own a great collection of hatches:shock:.
Fuccaro: Yes I draw my hatches with superhatch command using blocks :D. Well before that I also played with my .pat file like others, but didn't quite get the hatch I really needed and I've waisted a lot of time.

Converting .dxf to .pat???

I found this thread (from ages ago) about the pattern file for hatch - and I can't seem to figure out how to turn it into a hatch. Is there a tool that I need to install, or something?

Attaching the .dxf for a checker-plate that I drew-up ..

HatchKit can convert DXFs to PATs.

www.cadro.com.au/hatchkit (http://www.cadro.com.au/hatchkit)

Import from DXF file
Save as AutoCAD or Revit .PAT file
