Hi all

I'm trying to create a simple visualisation in viz R3, but i'm can't seem to be able to create 2D planes mapped with cut outs of trees and people that have no background colour.
I begin by creating a plane and assigning the bitmap (Tree.TIFF) as a diffuse map. When i render my scene the bitmap appears, but how do I get rid of the background? I have tried to copy the tree map as an opacity map and then amend Channel & Alpha settings under Bitmap Parameters,
but nothing seems to remove the background.

Any ideas?

My first thought is... Er, use Bryce, this sort of thing is much easier :)

Second, I found this great tutorial on creating trees in VIZ 3 http://www.vizdepot.com/tutorials-m4.html maybe that will help. There's loads of other tutorials on thsi site as well. All of them good http://www.vizdepot.com

Then I found this which I think is just what you're after http://www.stclairc.on.ca/people/pages/fperissi/arc404/week9/week9.html

Why not post an image of your finished work so we can all take a look.

Unfortunately, Bryce is not an option for this work...
I managed to get some OK results by constructing a cruciform from two planes and applying the image to each plane (diffuse colour map) then applying the mask / cut-out of the tree as an opacity map to the same planes.

I would post an image, but I'm not sure how to do this!

To post an image you must first upload it to some webspace. You can get good free webspace here http://www.netfirms.com Once there, you can simply link to the image using the BB Code.
