layer dialogue box messed up

Can anyone tell me how I can get my layers to stay listed in alphabetical order when I close the dialogue box? For some reason they are not returning to the default alphabetical ordering. When I open the dialogue box and press the name tab they will sort alphabetically, however, once closed they revert back to un-alphabetized.

set your MAXSORT variable to 1200

or higher (watch out this adds memory consumption)

the Default i think is 200, try 400 600 800 etc
