Maybe it's not running?
the Sql Server I mean.
You should have a icon in the taskbar for stopping and starting the sql server.

Your Inventor 10 disk should have it, reinstall IV and see what happens.

If you need a standalone version then don't choose any extras when you install.

There is no program called "autocad inventor 10". The correct name is Autodesk Inventor. It is not based on AutoCAD and operates differently than AutoCAD. Inventor is offended to be referred to as AutoCAD which is probably why it won't install.
Not sure how to fix your install problem but if you are a student you can download the latest Autodesk Inventor Professional 2008 for free from http://engineersrule.org
If you are not a student but live in N. America you can download the free Inventor LT (2008 ) from http://www.engineersrule.org but it is limited to single parts (no iam or sheetmetal functionality).
Trying to remember back to r10 I think you might be able to get around your problem if you elect to not install Content Center, but not sure.
I vagely recall something about Windows Service Pack 2, but that was so long ago - really hazy.

She is in Edinburgh on the 11th of Oct. Gonna try and make it there.
Try it install a 'bare bones' setup.
