Dear All

Please tell me if I am dreaming!! I am using ACAD 2008. In previous versions of ACAD could you trim/extend a line even if there was no apparent inetrsection. I have a linetype divide and am trying to trim to this line, but as the linetype is not continuous and there is no actual intersection even though there is as the lines cross other it does not allow me to trim and is annoying me a lot!!!!!

I have come across this, so I would be interested in any potential solutions.

I wonder if AutoCAD SP1 would rectify the issue ?
I would check myself but IT restricts me from installing anything :(

The work around that I have found is annoying, but to change everything to continuous linetype untill the linework is finished... :(

I currently do that, but there must be another way.
There is almost always more than one way of doing this in CAD

I'm not sure, but I vaguely remember a variable that controls this, I think.

Yeah, that's usually what I do too Chulse. I can trim (I just checked) but I can't use Intersection as a snap point if the lines in question are dashed and the dashes are not at the intersection... Apparent Intersection works though..

It's quite fast if you only have to switch between Continues and ByLayer, Ctrl+A and select Continous or Bylayer.

yes, fast - but annoying... it doesn't feel like something you should have to do. I mean - the line is there! :?

It's just a pity that CAD seems to think the line is actually made up the dash / dot segments though, annoying indeed.

I maybe not get the problem, but when you give the trim command and then press enter after selection you have some options and one of them is Edge, wich you can set on "extend" or "No extend"...
Setting on extend does not allow you to do what you are trying to do?

Did it work?

it didn't work for my intersection-thing - don't know about the trimming thing though, I didn't have a problem with it before...

Try PROJMODE

PROJMODE does nothing for me....what does it do?

Edgemode=1

That's the variable controlled by the option "edge" in the trim command.... (see post above).
But I have to admit that it's probably faster to set the variable than go trough the command's options

Isn't this the edgemode variable?
