View Full Version : Underlined fractions

I've got a title for a detail that has a fraction in it. The fraction is stacked diagonally and rather than underlining the entire fraction, the numerator and denominator are being underlined seperately. Anyone know how to fix this so the entire fraction is underlined, as though it was just another letter?

Post a screen shot if you can.

I managed to replicate the problem....here's a screen shot. if you write 1/3 and then right-click on it to make it diagonal stack and then underline it this happens....annoying
sorry for jumping in peterV - I was trying to figure it out when I saw SLW's post....and I can't figure it out!

Try putting a "SPACE" on both sides of the fraction.

Never mind, that doesn't work. :?

This is exactly my problem (thanks for posting the screen shot). If worse comes to worse, I can unstack or take off the underlining and draw a line under the text. There must be a solution, though.

the only 'solution' i have come across is to use the fraction that are part of Windows Character Map.
Insert those as a symbol into MText Editor, then underline it.
Of course, using this method you are extremely restricted as to which fractions you can use, AND you cannot input your own user-defined numbers as the numerator and/or denominator.
It's a solution Jim, but maybe not one that is eminently usable.

Thanks for the great idea, but this one had a similar problem. (Look at the attached image.)

oh hell...sometimes I suspect AutoCAD is just messing with us for the fun of it :glare:

I don't have any idea how they work or even really what they are, but would any sort of LISP function work in this situation? (Forgive me if this is a stupid question).

i thought you can change this in the dimension style? i could be wrong...

I'm not sure what you mean...please expand if possible.

I notice from your attachment that the text height of the fraction does not match the text height of the rest of the text. That is probably why you are getting a crooked line.

i believe you can alter the fraction in your dimension style manager... you can select whether or not it's horizontal, diagonal, or not stacked...
here's a pic of what i mean: go to "primary unit" and then from there you will see "fraction format:" i believe here you can change that....

Can you change the text height of a character from a the character map?

one thing i have never like about that, is that it tends to visually make the fractional part of the measurement bigger than the integer(s).
any idea how to resolve that?

Now I know what you mean. Yes, this is another option, but I would like to keep my text stacked diagonally if at all possible.

see if you alter like in my post above... if you are using the character map and selecting 1/4 the character and not typing "1/4" then that could be the issue as well...

Sorry, I have no ideas. (No practical ones, anyway).

Got ya. Still had the same issue, though. The underlining under the fraction came much closer to lining up with the rest of the text that was underlined, but just a hair off. Man, this is frustrating!!!

what if you just type it and turn off
'Eanble Auto Stacking"
all of the text come out the same height but at least it looks decent
