Greetings...

I am enrolled at a Tech School here in Austin Texas... I'm working with AutoCAD 2008 in the lab...

I figured that installing the 2008 trial version now, and purchasing the perpetual student version later would be a good idea...

I have installed the trial version and everything went accordingly with no error's or unexpected stops...

Upon launch I get a message (see attachment "AutoCAD error 1"). When you click "Quit" AutoCAD continues to launch. Any changes made to AutoCAD preferences or layout are not saved.

When you attempt to use many (most) of the menu options I get the message (see "AutoCAD error 2") this starts a loop that the only way out of is to CTRL+ALT+DEL and end the process.

All these errors are .NET related. I have listed in my "installed programs", .NET Framework 1.1, 2.0, and 3.0

My system is more than capable of running AutoCAD... See my signature below...

HELP! please... I cant see investing $400 in the student version if I'm going to be plagued with errors!

Where to start... Who to ask for help? What happens when uninstall .NET and reinstall...?

Thanks
Lee

Thanks for the reply....

Yes, I removed Norton completely... I used their removal tool and ran a couple different registry cleaners after.... Norton is gone...

Can .NET be removed and reinstalled???

Thanks

I've uninstalled all versions of .NET from my system... I removed AutoCAD 2008 trial, and started over.

When you install AutoCAD, it installs .NET 2.0 , I'm still getting the exact same error.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks... I have been thru the knowledge bases' for both Autodesk and Microsoft, I have yet to find anything that has helped.

I did edit the acad.exe.config file.... I thought I had something that might work... but nope it didn't

Hello again,

I'm now really shooting in the dark... As I understan it you are installing on your own PC, not a school PC conected to the school network? You did the install using an administrative account? Do these errors occurr in the admin account or a restricted account? Have you tried creating a new admin account and trying to start AutoCAD there? My thinking is along the lines of a corrupt profile...

Can't hurt to try... Read about the startup process for AutoCAD here:

mahahaavaaha,

BINGO!!! you were dead on with your shot in the dark! Once I created a new "admin" login, all the errors went away!

thank you so, much! I was getting ready to do a clean install of XP and give that a try!

My school work loaded no problem too!

Thanks to ALL who responded!
